According to ELSTAT data, the number of unemployed reached 383,788 people, marking a decrease of 72,352 people compared to August 2024 (15.9%) and a decrease of 11,542 people compared to July 2025 (2.9%).
Among women, the unemployment rate was 10.6%, down from 11.8% last August, and among men it was 6.1%, down from 8%. By major age groups, in the 15-24 age group, the unemployment rate increased to 19% from 17.2% in August 2024, while among those aged 25-74 it decreased to 7.5% from 9.3%.
According to the ELSTAT labor force survey, the number of employed reached 4,337,315 people, marking an increase of 79,288 people compared to August 2024 (1.9%) and a decrease of 2,331 people compared to July 2025 (0.1%).
Meanwhile, people under 75 years old who are not included in the labor force, or “people outside the labor force” (i.e., those who neither work nor seek work), reached 3,025,161 people, marking a decrease of 35,078 people compared to August 2024 (1.1%) and an increase of 11,556 people compared to July 2025 (0.4%).
