As he stated in a related announcement
"Since 2023, having left behind an international career, I accepted the invitation of the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participation (Hyperfund) and, more broadly, of my country, to apply my experience in Business Management to the restructuring of Hellenic Post. Over the past two and a half years, I have worked with determination and strategic foresight to address the Organization’s complex challenges, as well as the rapidly declining postal market—a global phenomenon that is particularly pronounced in Greece.
In this context, I studied international examples and engaged with former state postal operators from Europe and other regions, selecting strategies tailored to the specific characteristics of the Greek market. Our strategy focused on revitalizing a neglected organization, equipped with thirty-year-old infrastructure and limited digital capabilities, in order to meet the demands of a highly competitive environment.
Despite these efforts, the fundamental problem persists: the loss of over 90% of letter volume has not been matched by a corresponding adjustment of operational structures and costs. As a result, the Organization remains financially unsustainable, despite having been required to operate according to private-sector principles since 2013.
A key part of our strategy involved a plan to downsize underperforming branches, which I consider essential for ensuring the Organization’s viability and continued operation. Without implementation of this plan, I believe liquidity and the ability to pay employees’ salaries could soon be at risk. However, recent opposition from various quarters—particularly Members of Parliament representing their constituencies—has made the necessary dialogue to implement this plan extremely challenging. For this reason, I respectfully submit my resignation as Chief Executive Officer of Hellenic Post.
This decision is not merely a formal departure but a clear statement: after years of international experience, I view positions not as ends in themselves, but as opportunities to contribute. It is a matter of personal and professional principle.
Naturally, I remain available to support the transition in any way required. I would like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to my colleagues, collaborators, and the wider public with whom I had the privilege to work—it was the strongest source of motivation throughout this demanding journey over the past two and a half years."
