Due to asphalt paving work on a section of approximately 700-800 meters of the main runway, Heraklion "Nikos Kazatzakis" airport will be closed from Monday to noon on Saturday, February 24.

The airport master Giorgos Pliakas has announced that maintenance work will be carried out on the runway.

The work will be focused on the central section of the runway and will involve the laying of new asphalt.

This will result in at least half of the runway being covered with new asphalt, in addition to the previous years' work.

Mr. Pliakas has stated that the airliners have increased their routes to and from Chania and Sitia airports to better serve passengers. He also noted that the timing of the maintenance work was carefully chosen as it is the week with the lowest passenger traffic of the year.
