Infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Greece Region

Major infrastructure projects have either commenced in the first quarter of the year or are set to begin in the upcoming period in the Central Greece Region.

The following projects and actions have commenced or are about to start, marking significant advancements in various sectors:


The project "Technical Works – Asphalt Pavement of the Road Network of the Municipality of Karpenisi," with an initial budget of €500,000, focuses on the maintenance, reconstruction, and asphalting of sections of the road network within the Municipality of Karpenisi. This includes the asphalting of approximately 7,400 meters of road.

Another key project is the "Maintenance – Restoration of Technical Works and Stream Cleaning in the Municipality of Lokron," with a total budget of €74,400. Work has already begun on the cleaning of streams in the Municipality of Lokron, with plans to continue this effort in the streams of the Municipal Communities of Atalanti, Megaplatanos, Livanates, and Arkitsa to protect urban and rural areas from flooding.

An important project is the "Road Cleaning Work on the Borders of the Regional Unit of Phocis," with an initial budget of €200,000, funded and tendered by the Region of Central Greece. This work aims to remove flammable biomass and other hazardous materials that could contribute to fires during the high temperatures of summer. The project will cover an area of 800 hectares, corresponding to approximately 200 kilometers of road network, including both sides of the roads.

The "Environmental Upgrade and Insulation Works of the Music School of Lamia," with an initial budget of €63,227.64, is set to enter the implementation phase. This project, approved by the Regional Council of Central Greece, includes building insulation and environmental upgrades. Additionally, the Region of Central Greece has allocated €35,000 for the purchase of musical instruments to be used at the Music School of Lamia.

Work has also begun and is nearing completion on the fencing of the General Hospital of Kymi, following the signing of the construction contract for the "Repair of Retaining Wall at the Western Border of the Hospital's Fencing," with a budget of €100,000, financed and tendered by the Region of Central Greece.

Another asphalt project, "Asphalting of the Road Network from Arvaniti Stream in Agia Vlachernas to the Junction with the Provincial Road Agalianou – Sarkinis," had its initial budget set at €1,100,000. After a suspension of works, the Region of Central Greece decided to cancel the initial contract and signed a new construction agreement with the second lowest bidder. The current contractual cost stands at €470,000, covering widening, asphalting, technical constructions, and the installation of safety barriers and traffic signs along the road network from Agia Vlachernas to the borders of Aetolia-Acarnania.

The project "Maintenance and Restoration of Technical Works and Stream and River Cleaning in the Regional Unit of Phocis," initially budgeted at €300,000, will focus on the Mornos River and several streams, including Mandilo, Karoutiano, Tserlis, Sorros Trizoni, Granitsorema, Kokkinos, and Lefkadi. The work will also restore existing damaged technical works caused by heavy rainfall.

Several projects have been approved and are moving toward implementation with signed funding decisions, including the "Completion of Facilities and Environmental Space Development at the Lamia Indoor Swimming Pool," within the framework of the "Central Greece Regional Program 2021-2025." This project, with a total public expenditure of €4,000,000, is funded through the National Development Program (EAP) and aims to improve sports infrastructure.

The "Road Network Maintenance of the Regional Unit of Phthiotis – Phase 1," also funded by the EAP, focuses on reconstructing road sections and restoring technical works. This project has a public expenditure of €3,000,000, fully covering the initial budget.

Additionally, the "Energy Upgrade of the Police Directorate Building in Evrytania" has been integrated into the "Central Greece 2021-2027" program, focusing on the complete renovation of the Police Directorate building in Karpenisi. The building, initially categorized in energy class "D," is expected to achieve energy class "A+" upon completion. This project, with a public expenditure of €1,146,558.79, is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

The "Completion of Facilities and Environmental Space Development at the Psachna Gymnasium" has also received funding approval. This project, with an initial budget of €1,150,000, aims to finish the construction of the new indoor gymnasium in Psachna and create an adjacent synthetic turf football field. It falls under the priority area "Sports Infrastructure" in the Central Greece Regional Development Program 2021-2025.

Further, the "Western Section of the Ancient City of Delphi Enhancement Project," under the "Central Greece 2021-2027" program, aims to protect, restore, and enhance the monuments of the western part of Delphi. The project, which will also expand the archaeological site for visitors, is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and has a budget of €950,000.

Significant energy upgrades are also underway for military facilities, including the "Energy Upgrade of the 114th Fighter Wing Buildings at Tanagra" in Boeotia, with a budget of €1,543,800. This project will improve the energy efficiency of key buildings, such as the Administration, Medical Center, and Officers' Club.

Other notable projects include the "Energy Upgrade of the Dorida Police Station Building" in the Phocis Police Directorate, with a public expenditure of €217,802.92. This initiative also falls under the "Central Greece 2021-2027" program.

The restoration of the historic Mornos Bridge is progressing smoothly. This cross-regional project, with a total budget of €2.3 million, is jointly funded by the Regional Programs of Central and Western Greece. The work aims to restore this significant landmark.

Moreover, the Regional Governor of Central Greece, Fanis Spanos, has signed a decision to launch new proposals under the "Central Greece 2021-2027" program for urban sustainability actions in the Municipality of Lamia. The program, which has an allocated budget of €14,212,237.91, aims to support the continued sustainable urban development strategy in Lamia.

Additionally, a call for project proposals has been issued for road construction to improve connectivity in the region. The available funding for these road improvements is €17,700,000, and eligible applicants include the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and other relevant authorities.

In the tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism, led by Olga Kefalogianni, has approved the investment plan for upgrading the facilities at the Karpenisi Ski Resort. This project, part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (ESAA), has a budget of €9,900,000, with a public contribution of €9,795,181.5.

Finally, a contractual agreement has been signed for the "Repair and Maintenance of the Courthouse Building in Halkida – Kymi Regional Seat," with a budget of €240,000. Additionally, several new projects have been added to the Technical Program of 2025, including the environmental study of irrigation extractions in the Boeotian Kifisos River and the cleaning of local rivers. Other initiatives include the design of bike paths in Evrytania and the recognition of the History and Culture Center of Evrytania as a museum.
