The interventions cover more than 35 schools, aiming to enhance their energy efficiency and overall functionality.
Through the Operational Program "Epirus 2021-2027", energy upgrades will be made to the Kiafas school complex and the following schools: 6th, 7th, and 8th Gymnasiums, and the 1st General Lyceum (ΓΕΛ).

- Thermal insulation of buildings
- Replacement of windows and lighting fixtures
- New heating system
- Installation of photovoltaic panels at the 6th & 7th Gymnasiums and the 1st General Lyceum
Through the "Marietta Giannakou" program – Improvement of 9 schools:
- Schools: 1st and 3rd Kindergartens in Katsikas, 23rd Kindergarten in Ioannina, Katsikas Primary School, 3rd Primary School in Marmara (Kardamitsia), Perama Gymnasium, Pedini Lyceum, 6th EPAL, 5th Primary School in Ioannina (Valaneio)
- Budget: Defined by the Ministry of the Interior (Ministry of Interior – Building Infrastructure S.A.)
- Planned works:
- Painting (interior and exterior)
- Replacement of restrooms
- Addition of sports equipment in schoolyards
Through the "Athena" program – Energy upgrades of 4 schools:
- Schools: 10th & 22nd Kindergartens in Ioannina, Stavraki Primary School, 5th Primary School in Ioannina (Valaneio)
- Budget: €760,000 (Recovery and Resilience Fund)
- Planned works:
- Thermal insulation
- Replacement of windows
- Installation of heat pumps
For the bioclimatic upgrading of schoolyards:
- Schools: 9 schools, including 3rd Primary School (Maroutseio), 6th Primary School (Vrysoula), 13th Primary School (Botanikos), 3rd Primary School in Marmara (Kardamitsia), Complex of 3rd & 10th Gymnasiums and 3rd Lyceum (North Epirus), 7th Gymnasium (Kiafa), 2nd Lyceum (G. Papandreou), 8th General Lyceum Zosimias, 6th EPAL (Seismic-prone)
- Budget: €3 million (Sustainable Urban Development Plan 2021-2027)
- Planned works:
- New materials for schoolyards
- Shading areas and tree plantings
- Irrigation systems using rainwater collection
- Installation of urban furniture
Additionally, primary seismic pre-assessment will be conducted for all schools in the Municipality of Ioannina (139 in total).
- Budget: €45,000 (Program "Antonis Tritsis")
- Planned works:
- Collection of documents (licenses, plans, certificates, photos)
- Creation of a file for each school
- Issuance of pre-seismic inspection certificates in collaboration with the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE)
Energy upgrade of the 3rd & 10th Gymnasiums and 3rd Lyceum
