Mr. Metsovitis has extensive experience in the aviation industry in Greece and abroad. He started his career as an aircraft operator and flight instructor before moving on to senior management positions in the airport industry.
He was part of the management team that oversaw Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" from its inception. Later, he joined the executive team of Hamad International Airport, where he was responsible for the operations of Qatar's airports. He focused on maintaining high-quality operations and ensuring a dynamic and changing environment that provides a satisfactory experience for passengers. He served as Senior Vice President of Operations during his tenure.
Before taking on the role of General Manager of the New International Airport of Heraklion Crete (NAHIK), Mr. Metsovitis led the team that prepared and highlighted the Doha International Airports of Qatar (Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport), which received the majority of visitors during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The "Heraklion International Airport of Crete" (IAHC) company was established to construct and manage the New International Airport in Kasteli, Crete. The Greek State (45.90%), GEK TERNA S.A. (32.46%), and GMR Airports Ltd (21.64%) are the company's shareholders. TERNA is implementing the construction of the new airport, and it is designed to be a state-of-the-art airport that meets current and future traffic needs.
