The Data Centers developed by the consortium will prioritize energy efficiency, incorporating advanced cooling technologies and utilizing "green" energy sourced from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) to minimize their environmental impact.
In this context, IPTO, as the operator of the national electricity transmission system, will ensure the energy supply for the Data Centers through its privately owned facilities. This will include access to electricity, fiber optic networks, and other critical operational resources. Meanwhile, Serverfarm will contribute its extensive expertise in the development and management of advanced Data Centers.
The initial plans involve the construction and operation of hyperscale-ready Data Centers in the greater Athens area, with the creation of facilities capable of supporting a total capacity of up to 130 MW.
Founded in 2009, Serverfarm has grown into one of the largest global providers of Data Center Management as a Service (DMaaS). In 2015, the company introduced the InCommand platform, which integrates real estate management, facility environments, and IT systems. Serverfarm’s core philosophy emphasizes the reuse and upgrading of existing facilities, rather than the construction of new ones.
Currently, Serverfarm operates in more than 750 locations across 45 countries.
According to Manos Manousakis, President and CEO of IPTO, through the Gemini consortium, IPTO will be able to fully utilize its facilities as an operator in key locations across the country, thereby opening new opportunities for the advancement of digital services in the wider region.
