The electrical interconnection of Greek islands to the mainland's network, is expected to result in savings benefit ranging from €5.8 to €8.5 billion in over 25-years period (depending on the scenario for energy demand and the degree of penetration of renewable sources) According to IPTO, as soon as the project that is scheduled to be delivered by the end of the decade consumers will begin realising benefits.

This shall be the output of the ten-year development program of the Transmission System for the period 2023 - 2032 that was put into consultation by RAE (it had already been put into consultation by IPTO at the beginning of the year) as well as the corresponding program for the period 2022-2031 that was approved by Principle.

The fourth phase of the interconnection of the Cyclades will save 1.5-3 billion euros in the period 2025-2049. The completion horizon is 2029.

With regards to the second phase of the interconnection of Crete (Heraklion - Attica), the completion horizon of the project remains pending due to delays in licensing, effects of the pandemic, etc. RAE, with the decision to approve the 2022-2031 program, sets a deadline of the second semester of 2023 while ADMIE in the new 2023-2032 decade states that the project will be completed in 2024.
