The American company CHEVRON, in partnership with HELLENiQ Energy, has officially announced its participation in the international tender for the granting of exploration and exploitation rights for hydrocarbons in the offshore areas located south of Crete and the Peloponnese.

The two companies jointly expressed interest in all four areas outlined in the tender ("Block A2," "South of Peloponnese," "South of Crete 1," and "South of Crete 2"), covering a total area of 47,000 square kilometers.

The Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou, commented on the matter:

"Today, the consortium of Chevron and Helleniq Energy announced its participation in the international tender for the four offshore blocks south of Crete and the Peloponnese. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in the exploitation of our country’s underwater energy resources. It represents a development of hope and prospects for Greece. With national confidence, Greece is laying strong foundations for its energy independence and leveraging its strategic geopolitical position in the Eastern Mediterranean."

"The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is fulfilling its duty to our children and future generations by delivering on its commitments to create an energy-secure, investment-attractive, and geopolitically strong Greece. From tomorrow, we will move forward even more decisively and swiftly, unlocking the potential of our country for progress and prosperity for all Greek citizens."

It is noteworthy that the tender for the three blocks south of Crete and the Peloponnese was initiated following Chevron's expression of interest.
