This is a project been built by the Region of Attica (NSRF 2014-2020 Cohesion Fund and European Regional Development Fund) and is expected to radically change the environmental conditions in the wider Mediterranean area, paving the way for the definitive settlement of the problem of unclean and putting an end to the imposition of fines by the EU for non-implementation of the current Community Directive on sewerage network infrastructure and wastewater treatment.
The beginning of the trial operation of the KEL Kropias took place within the planned project execution schedules, which had been updated by the new administration of the Regional Governor G. Patoulis with the aim of the faster completion of the project which had been on the cards for many years since the original anticipation of its implementation.
At the same time, the gradual expansion of its network with new connections is foreseen, in order to serve other settlements in the area. The trial operation of KEL Kropia is monitored by the President of the responsible committee for monitoring and execution of the project and Authorized Regional Advisor for Technical Projects, Infrastructure and Spatial Planning Mr. Katsigiannis.
The Wastewater Treatment Center of Kropia - Peania with a budget of 112,900,000 euros - which will gradually reach approximately 200 million euros (network and KEL) - was built by the Region of Attica with EYDAP as the Operating Body within the framework of a relevant Program Contract between the two involved bodies and of the Municipality of Kropias.
This is a project that is part of the broader cooperation of the Region of Attica with EYDAP and the Municipalities in Eastern Attica, which includes the implementation of a total of 5 flagship drainage and wastewater treatment projects with a budget of €420 million from resources of two NSRF Funds 2014-2020 ( Cohesion Fund and European Regional Development Fund) and include the EEL Rafina and Marathon, the upgrading of the unit in Markopoulos and the construction of a 1000 km pipeline network, projects which together with the KEL Kropia exceed €500 million in budget.
