Another significant step toward the redevelopment of the former IKA property in Chania was taken with the signing of the building demolition contract by the Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis, at the Chania City Hall.

The property, long abandoned and unused for decades, came under the ownership of the Municipality of Chania in April 2023 under exceptionally favorable terms, as the municipality will begin paying rent ranging from €6,000 to €9,000 only after twenty years.

With the recent signing of the demolition contract, the project now enters its final preparatory phase for the creation of a vital component of the modern administrative center of the Municipality of Chania. The contract budget amounts to €177,000 (including VAT), with demolition set to commence following the issuance of the necessary permits by the Urban Planning Authority. Particular attention will be paid to the management and disposal of demolition materials in accordance with current legislation.

The demolition of the existing building marks the commencement of the property’s redevelopment, formerly housing the IKA offices, paving the way for the establishment of modern administrative offices for the Municipality of Chania. These new facilities will complement the new City Hall located in the former Italian Barracks.
