ADMIE signs contract for the new high-voltage cable interconnection project between Corfu and Igoumenitsa.

As announced by the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System Operator (ADMIE), the competitive tender for Corfu’s third interconnection with the mainland electricity grid attracted significant interest from companies based in Greece, Italy, and China. Following the evaluation process, Fulgor S.A. was awarded the contract with a total offer of €61.19 million.

This project represents a major upgrade to the island’s energy infrastructure, further strengthening the security and reliability of Corfu’s electricity supply under all operating conditions. The new interconnection is expected to have a direct positive impact on residents’ quality of life, while also reinforcing the overall operational adequacy and resilience of the wider Epirus regional grid.

The scope of the project includes a 150 kV high-voltage transmission line, comprising 17 kilometers of submarine cabling and 4 kilometers of underground routing, integrated with fiber optic infrastructure along its entire length. The construction is scheduled for completion within 24 months of the contract signing.

This interconnection forms part of ADMIE’s broader strategic investment plan for the modernization of energy links across the Ionian Islands. Following the upgrade of the Kyllini–Zakynthos connection, work is currently advancing on the Zakynthos–Kefalonia and Kefalonia–Lefkada interconnections, with completion anticipated by 2026.
