The Ministry of Education announced the establishment of a Polytechnic School at the University of Crete (ELMEPA), based in Heraklion, Crete.

The new Polytechnic School at the University of Crete will include the following departments from the former School of Engineering at the Hellenic Mediterranean University (ELMEPA), formerly known as the Technological Educational Institute of Crete (TEI of Crete):

  • Department of Electrical Engineers and Computer Engineers, based in Heraklion,

  • Department of Electronics Engineers, based in Chania,

  • Department of Mechanical Engineers, based in Heraklion.

At the same time, the degrees issued by the departments that have joined the Polytechnic School of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, awarded before their integration into the Polytechnic School and after completing a 10-semester program, are equal and equivalent, in all respects, to the degrees awarded by these departments for the completion of studies of the same duration after their integration into the above Polytechnic School.

The Hellenic Mediterranean University (ELMEPA) is a public higher education institution in Greece, based in Heraklion, Crete, with branches in Chania, Rethymno, Agios Nikolaos, and Sitia. It was founded on April 25, 2019 (Law 4610/2019, Government Gazette 70, issue A', May 7, 2019), as the successor to TEI of Crete. Today, it consists of six schools, with over 12,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and around 400 teaching and research staff.
