The joint competent Ministries of Environment and Energy, Interior and Climate Crisis and Civil Protection proceeded with the issuance of the Fire Protection Regulation for Properties in or near forest areas.

The new regulation defines preventive fire protection measures as well as minimum requirements for passive and active fire protection both for buildings (new and existing) and for the surrounding area of the property, in order to strengthen the degree of fire safety, reduce its vulnerability to fire, and to limit its contribution to its spread.

It concerns properties located within, or within a radius of 300 meters from forests, grasslands in mountainous areas, and grasslands in plains on uneven terrain. It also concerns the buildings located within, or within a radius of 300 meters from peri-urban greenery and declared reforestable areas.

It defines four categories of fire hazard:

low, medium, high and extra high

The classification is based on a significant number of criteria (fourteen) related to the morphological characteristics of the area, the climatic conditions, the slope of the ground on which they are built, the vegetation, the infrastructures and the networks, the frequency of the events and the fire hazard of the area.

The regulation defines preventive fire protection measures, passive fire protection measures and suppressive measures, with the aim of erecting more resistant to ignition structures, controlling combustible material and limiting it to a safe distance from buildings.
