The final 10 kilometres of the Patras–Pyrgos motorway, between Mintilogli and Kaminia, have been opened to traffic.

With the delivery of this section by the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the project is now fully completed, following the commissioning of the first 65 kilometres last summer. With the entire 277-kilometre stretch now open to traffic, Olympia Odos has become the third-largest motorway in Greece.

Implemented within the framework of the Olympia Odos concession agreement, the Patras–Pyrgos section provides a decisive upgrade compared to the old National Road. The new infrastructure features a modern alignment and fully separated carriageways, constructed in accordance with the latest standards. Infrastructure works such as bridges, grade-separated interchanges, parking areas, and junctions ensure safe and seamless connections with the regional road network. Additional upgrades — including flood-protection works, service and connecting roads — are currently underway.

Thanks to this new section, the Patras–Pyrgos travel time is reduced by 50%, now taking just 40 minutes, while the Athens–Pyrgos journey now lasts 2 hours and 45 minutes. Beyond reducing travel time, the new motorway represents a major step forward in road safety. Modern construction standards, enhanced surveillance, real-time traffic management, and 24/7 roadside assistance provided by the Olympia Odos operations teams now ensure significantly safer travel across Western Greece.

Service quality is also entering a new era. Olympia Odos is the first motorway in Greece to operate exclusively with electronic tolling and Automatic Payment Machines, offering drivers a faster and more streamlined experience. Further innovations will follow, as Olympia Odos prepares to introduce technologies already in use on the Elefsina–Patras section, such as distance-based charging, advanced digital services, and electric-vehicle charging stations.

Traffic data already confirm the strong reception of the project. During the first three months of operation, more than 829,000 vehicle passages were recorded, underscoring the motorway’s critical role in mobility and regional development in Western Greece.
