LAMDA Development unveiled that the undergrounding of Posidonos Street will be one of the most modern tunnels in Europe which will upgrade the city's road network, ensuring the fastest passage of vehicles, connecting the beach front with Hellinikon Park and the city.
According to the data released, the excavations have been completed over 75% of the total volume of 400,000 m3 of soil and the concreting of walls over 45%. The concreting of more than 55% of the base plate has also been completed.
With the undergrounding of Posidonos in a length of 1.5 kilometers from Alimos beach to the height of Agios Kosmas Marina, traffic congestion will be reduced as 6 traffic lights are removed and 6 traffic lanes are created (three from the rise and three from the descent).
The entire area currently covered by the beach will be transformed into a green space that will unite the Metropolitan Park with the beach, while a light traffic road and a bicycle path will pass through the area. The undergrounding project, which started in May 2022, will be completed in June 2025 and is expected to be handed over to the public, after the necessary operational tests, at the end of 2025.
