This project represents the second major step in the completion of the interconnection between the Aravissos and Aliakmonas aqueducts, which are two of the primary water sources for Thessaloniki. The first phase of the interconnection, which involved the network systems and water transfer facilities for the serviced areas, was completed in December 2019.

EYAΘ progresses with the construction of the second major project for the interconnection of the Arabissos and Aliakmonas aqueducts, which will enhance the water supply to the Thessaloniki Urban Area with alternative water supply "lines." Specifically, from midnight on Sunday, March 9, until the early morning hours (approximately until 10 a.m.), work will take place to connect a new pipe with a diameter of Φ600 at the intersection of Agiou Dimitriou and Ifaistionos Streets in Thessaloniki.

During these works, there will be a water supply interruption in the wider central area of Thessaloniki, including the streets of Aggelaki, Egnatia, Monastiriou, Anagennisis, West Entrance, Roxani, 26th of October, and Leoforos Nikis, as well as adjacent streets.

This project represents the second major step in completing the interconnection of the Arabissos and Aliakmonas aqueducts, two key water supply sources for Thessaloniki. Upon its completion, alternative water supply lines will be established for areas such as Sykies, Ano Poli, Eptapyrgio, Xirokrini, Ampelokipi, and Menemeni, ensuring greater stability and reliability in the city’s water supply.

It should be noted that the first interconnection project of the two aqueducts, which involves the water network systems and transfer facilities in the water supply areas, was completed in December 2019.

EYAΘ continuously adapts its development program to the constantly changing conditions of climate change, hydrological variations, and consumption needs, fortifying and improving its infrastructure while simultaneously redesigning its key facilities.

Its business plan continues with significant maintenance works on major water pipelines and the expansion of the Thessaloniki Water Treatment Facility, which will increase available water quantities and create the conditions for network expansion to new areas.
