In particular, pursuant to a recent announcement, and within the framework of a program agreement to be formalized between the President of OFYPEKA, Maria Papadopoulou, the CEO of OFYPEKA, Kostas Triantis, and the Mayor of Sfakia, Yiannis Zervos, OFYPEKA has allocated a sum of €320,000 to finance the aforementioned projects. The Municipality of Sfakia will oversee their implementation, with the support of OFYPEKA.
The first project, which pertains to the development of the central pathway within the historic settlement of Agia Roumeli, aims to facilitate the efficient movement of the considerable number of visitors to Samaria National Park. Furthermore, it will improve access for Civil Protection agencies to the gorge, enabling prompt responses to natural disasters and emergencies, and facilitating the execution of projects and initiatives within the Park by OFYPEKA.
The second project, which focuses on ensuring access for individuals with disabilities from the Upper Port of Agia Roumeli to the Holy Church of Agia Triada, will promote environmental recreation for people with disabilities within the broader area of the Park. This initiative addresses an existing gap in accessibility, which has previously been hindered by the region's topography and the lack of suitable infrastructure.
Both projects aim to contribute to the comprehensive enhancement of the southern section of Samaria National Park and are integral to the broader framework of ensuring its effective management and further development.
