The Municipality of Athens has delivered two fully renovated playgrounds in Neos Kosmos and Pangrati, offering safe and modern recreational spaces for the city’s youngest residents.

Two newly renovated playgrounds were recently completed in Athens — one at the corner of Raftopoulou and Soulioton in Neos Kosmos, covering 248 sq.m., and another at the intersection of Damareos and Alketou in Pangrati, with a total area of 340 sq.m.

Both spaces have been fully redesigned and upgraded with modern play equipment including multi-functional structures, slides, swings, and seesaws, catering to the needs of both preschool and school-age children. New shock-absorbing rubber flooring has been installed, along with modern lighting, upgraded fencing, and enhanced safety features.

Each playground has areas of natural shade from trees, benches for caregivers, drinking fountains, waste bins, and full accessibility for people with disabilities via specially designed ramps. All installations meet EU safety standards (EN 1176) and have been certified by the independent body OCTOCERT, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.

Since the beginning of 2024, a total of 16 renovated playgrounds have been delivered across Athens. These include:

  • Sina & Dafnomili, Exarchia

“Playgrounds are reference points for our neighborhoods. We are offering moments of happiness to our youngest citizens, with equal access for all. The City of Athens is investing in the next generation while breathing life into our public spaces.”

Eleni Zontirou, President of the City of Athens Cultural, Sports, and Youth Organization (OPANDA), added:

“Every playground we renovate or build brings with it laughter, creativity, and friendships. Safety and accessibility for all children are our top priorities. With these renewed playgrounds, Athens is becoming a more human-centered, welcoming city.”
