The hotel will be located near Omonia Square and is being developed in partnership with the group’s strategic real estate partner, Primetown Development. The group’s presence in Athens marks a significant milestone in its international expansion and strengthens its position in Southern Europe.
The hotel will operate at 7 Agiou Konstantinou Street, just steps from the Omonia metro station and within close proximity to key city landmarks such as the Acropolis, Plaka, and Syntagma Square. With tourism in Athens continuing its upward trajectory and strong demand for high-quality, well-designed hospitality, the new Ruby Group hotel aims to offer both visitors and city residents a space for relaxation and inspiration that reflects the spirit of Athens.
The ground floor will feature a signature 24-hour bar typical of Ruby Group hotels, along with a dedicated breakfast room. Among the highlights are the spacious fifth-floor terrace with an outdoor bar and pool, as well as a rooftop on the ninth floor—ideal for private gatherings and moments of effortless enjoyment overlooking the city. Thanks to excellent public transport connections, guests will also benefit from easy access to Athens International Airport, approximately 40 minutes away.
“We are proud to have secured this exceptional project and to contribute with our extensive expertise in transforming distinctive urban buildings into efficient, lifestyle-driven hospitality units,” said Catherine Hilt, Associate Director Development for Southern Europe at Ruby Group. “Athens represents an exciting next step in Ruby Group’s expansion and perfectly embodies the vibrant, culturally rich destination where the Lean Luxury philosophy truly comes to life. Together with our partner Primetown Development and in strategic alignment with the IHG Group, we look forward to bringing this hotel in central Athens to life.”
Sotirios Athinaios, Partner at Primetown Development, commented: “We are particularly excited about our collaboration with Ruby Group and IHG on a project that redefines contemporary hospitality in the heart of Athens. Our goal is to breathe new life into this iconic building and create a space that reflects the city’s creative energy and cultural dynamism. This hotel is more than just a property – it is a statement about the future of Athens as a vibrant and internationally recognized destination.”
The new Ruby Group hotel in Athens, expected to open in 2027, will join the premium portfolio of IHG Hotels & Resorts, following the brand’s acquisition in February 2025.
Willemijn Geels, Vice President of Development for Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts, stated: “The arrival of Ruby Hotels in Athens demonstrates the ongoing demand from travelers for a premium lifestyle brand in one of Europe’s most popular tourist capitals. Signing this project in Athens represents a unique opportunity to expand the brand into new locations and further strengthens IHG’s footprint in Greece, where we now operate or have under development ten hotels. We look forward to working with Ruby Group, which brings outstanding expertise in transforming architectural heritage into contemporary Lean Luxury experiences, creating a distinctive stay for guests. The hotel’s central location in downtown Athens makes it an ideal destination for both travelers and city residents seeking the perfect base to explore the city’s multifaceted character.”
The integration of the Ruby Group’s hotel in Athens into the portfolio of IHG Hotels & Resorts marks another step in the group’s strategic expansion within the Greek market. With this addition, IHG now operates or has under development ten hotels across the country, covering key destinations for both business and leisure travel, including Athens, Thessaloniki, and Crete.
This partnership underscores IHG’s ongoing commitment to growth in high-demand European markets through its strong portfolio of lifestyle brands.
