The company has made the final investment decision to construct two large-scale photovoltaic projects in the Central Macedonia Region. The photovoltaic projects, "Kotylia" and "Neo Syrrako," will have a total capacity of 567 MWp (518 MWac). Construction is expected to begin this spring, with operations anticipated to start in 2027. The estimated annual energy production of the two projects is expected to meet the energy needs of more than 140,000 households.
The company, METON Energy S.A., which is managing the project, has signed bilateral green electricity purchase agreements with PPC and RWE Supply & Trading. These agreements will last for 10 years and will see the two companies purchase the green electricity generated by the project.
For the €418 million investment, €175 million has been secured from European Union funds under the NextGenerationEU program through the "Greece 2.0" Recovery and Resilience Fund, while the remaining capital will be financed through a bank loan of €169 million and shareholder contributions.
Together, RWE Renewables Europe & Australia (51%) and DEI Renewables (49%) have already electrified five photovoltaic projects with a total capacity of 210 MWp, and they have completed the construction of another project with a total capacity of 315 MWp, which is expected to be electrified in the near future.
The construction of three more joint photovoltaic projects, with a total capacity of 625 MWp, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. These nine photovoltaic projects have a total capacity of 940 MWp (870 MWac) and are located in Western Macedonia, within the boundaries of the former open-pit lignite mine of Amyntaio.
