A two-month extension, now set for January 31, 2025, was requested and granted to GEK TERNA, the provisional contractor for the main section of the VOAK (Chania-Heraklion), through a decision by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. This extension is to facilitate the completion of the finalization of the contractual documentation.

By the same decision, the company is required to ensure the extension of its letter of guarantee until April 30, 2025, as well as the extension of the validity of its Offer and the letters of loan support related to the Updated Interim Financing for the Finalization Period until March 31, 2025.

Upon completion of the process to finalize the contractual documents, the selection of the final contractor, the pre-contractual legal audit, and the approval of the concession agreement by the Court of Auditors, the agreement will then be signed and subsequently ratified by Parliament.

The tender pertains to the design, construction, financing, operation, maintenance, and exploitation of a section of the VOAK motorway, with a budget exceeding €1.5 billion. This project represents the largest infrastructure development undertaken through a Concession Agreement at a pan-European level.

The concession period spans 35 years, with the first five years (60 months) designated for the design and construction phase.
