The Poulopoulos Bridge, spanning 105 meters, is located in Petralona and was originally constructed in 1975 as a renovation of the pre-existing bridge.
As part of the regular inspections and checks carried out by STASY (Athens Urban Transport Organization), it was deemed necessary to upgrade the bridge’s infrastructure, extending its lifespan by an additional 50 years. Prior to this, a specialized team conducted an inspection study and documented the technical requirements, followed by the preparation of a study specifically focused on the elevation of the structure and the replacement of the bearings.
In detail, according to STASY, the project includes strengthening the bridge's piers and foundation, elevating and maintaining the structure, and replacing the existing, outdated bearings with modern ones. This is a technically demanding and complex project, which will be carried out without disrupting the operation of Metro Line 1. The contract duration is set at 12 months.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, through its decision, has approved the financing of the project from the National Development Program (E.P.A.) with a budget of €3,215,000 plus VAT. The relevant tender will be announced in the coming days.
