The Grimaldi Group has signed an agreement with the Chinese shipyards China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Weihai) for the construction of nine Ro-Pax vessels, two of which will fly the Greek flag and be operated under the Minoan Lines brand.

As stated by the company, the cost of the group’s new shipbuilding program is projected to reach $1.3 billion, with the vessels being equipped with engines that are capable of operating on methanol.

Six ships will be deployed in the Mediterranean under the commercial brands of Grimaldi Lines and Minoan Lines, while three vessels will be operated by Finnlines in the Baltic Sea. All ships are expected to be delivered between 2028 and 2030.

With a length of 229 meters, the new Ro-Pax passenger and vehicle ferries intended for the Mediterranean will have a transport capacity of 3,300 linear meters for freight vehicles and over 300 passenger cars. Additionally, the ships will be capable of accommodating up to 2,500 passengers, offering more than 300 cabins (with a total passenger capacity exceeding 1,200) and approximately 700 reclining airline-style seats.
