The Ministry of National Defence launches tender for its Housing Programme

A tendering procedure has been launched today, Tuesday 23 July 2024, for the implementation of the first phase of the Ministry of National Defence Housing Programme, funded by the Public Investment Programme, with a budget of 100 million euro.

The invitation to tender shall concern the commencement of the procedure for the construction of 702 apartments in 54 building complexes of all three Branches of the Armed Forces, in remote regions and islands with high rental costs and limited availability of houses.

In particular, the housing programme shall initially include the wider region of 5 cities in Thrace (Alexandroupolis, Didymoticho, Orestiada, Komotini, Xanthi) and 13 islands in the Eastern and Central Aegean Sea (Karpathos, Rhodes, Kastelorizo, Kos, Samos, Chios, Leros, Lesvos, Lemnos, Samothrace, Skyros, Mykonos, Syros).

It should be noted that 15% of new houses under the Housing Programme shall be allocated to professors – teachers and NHS medical doctors – nurses, within the framework of the Programme Agreements between the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of Health respectively.

The aim of the Ministry of National Defence Housing Programme is, along with the 243 apartments already under construction, to have totally 944 lodgings delivered within 2026 to Armed Forces members, particularly low-ranking ones that move across the country to perform their duties.

It is recalled that on 18th April 2024, the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, inaugurated symbolically the foundation of the new 13-apartment complex in Orestiada.
