The 2030 development plan for Greece includes 188 major projects, with a total budget of €27.6 billion.

The priorities of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport were analyzed in an interview with NEA by the responsible minister Christos Staikouras. As he said, "among them are emblematic projects, such as the Thessaloniki Metro, the Central Greek Motorway (E65), the Northern Road Axis of Crete (VOAK), the Patras-Pyrgos highway, the Bralos-Amfissa axis, the extensions of the Metro Athena's".

According to the Minister, "the infrastructure and transport sector is a potential strong factor in promoting the rate of growth and sustainable development of the economy, decentralization and development of the entire territory, creating jobs, improving the living conditions and everyday life of all citizens, strengthening the social cohesion".

Commenting on the tragedy in Tempi, Mr. Staikouras said "in the current period, all of us will work intensively, with collective and individual responsibility, in order to effectively deal with the open issues of safety and quality of infrastructure and transport".

The Logistics sector on the front

A priority for the Ministry, according to Mr. Staikouras, is the exploitation of new technologies, with the aim of seamless exchange and sharing of data between transport and supply chain platforms and services, capitalizing on European projects, such as the FENIX project.

Also, it will be sought to strengthen the cooperation with co-competent bodies and the Council for the Development and Competitiveness of the Supply Chain, for the implementation of tools and interfaces, which will improve the operations of the transport and logistics sector in Greece. "At the same time, we are working on policies for the creation of freight centers," the minister underlined, stressing that "in this way, it is sought to strengthen the efficient organization of supply chain activities and the development of its competitiveness, with the aim of increasing freight flows and providing services added value".
