Greece agrees with the EU Commission on Thriasio I adjustments

Τhe Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Costas Karamanlis, has informed the Business and Industrial Chamber of Piraeus that a long-term negotiation with the General Directorate of Competition (DG Comp) of the EU Commission regarding the "Thriasio I" project, had been successfully concluded.

EU Commission stipulated, that in case the return on investment exceeds 9%, then this return shall be divided between the parties.

The aim is to have the revised contract been approved by the Court of Auditors, re-ratified by the Greek Parliament and been signed in the autumn so as for the works to be initiated.

According to relevant information, the Commission has requested for changes that are reffering to the increase of the entrance fee as well as the duration of the lease.

In particular the EU has advised the Greek State to double the entrance fee and at the same time to reduce the concession period to 37 years. 

At the same time the Commission stipulated, that in case the return on investment exceeds 9%, then this return shall be divided between the parties.

Nonetheless it is not clarified whether shall be shared the excess part of the 9% threshold or how should be shared this excess return among the parties.
