The Integrated Urban Intervention Plan of the Municipality of Piraeus
The SOAP of the Municipality of Piraeus has as general goal the
development of the city as a business and tourist Metropolitan Center of
international recognition and scope, utilizing its advantages and
possibilities. The main axes of SOAP interventions concern the
strengthening of competitiveness with investments in research and
innovation, in the applications of information and communication
technology and in the development of strategic networks of activities
(Shipping network and Blue economy).
Among other things, the complete intervention in the following 7 Special Regeneration Zones is proposed :
1) the Port & City interface area
2) the areas of Agios Dionysios, Kaminia, Piraeus linear axis and the linear axis of railway lines
3) the areas of Karava - Maniatika and Odigitria
4) the Zone of Neo Faliro
5) the SEF - Karaiskaki stadium Zone
6) the area Mikrolimano (urban character) and
7) the area of Palataki - School of Naval Trials (expansion of port
infrastructure for reception and service of cruise ships, transport
support).
The Integrated Urban Intervention Plan of Western Athens
The SOAP of West Athens concerns the subsection of West Athens
(Municipalities of Egaleo, Peristeri, Petroupoli, Chaidari, Agios
Varvaras, Ilio, Agios Anargyros-Kamatero) and the Municipality of Filis.
In these areas, chronic problems of degradation are identified, which
have intensified in recent years, at the social but also economic and
environmental level. The central goal of SOAP is to redefine the role of
Western Athens on the basis of spatial and social cohesion. At the same
time, the improvement of the position in the urban complex of Athens is
sought, by strengthening the competitiveness, strengthening of
activities and effective management / upgrading of the public space.
The main objectives of the W. Athens SOAP are to tackle unemployment,
create sufficient employment opportunities, integrate social groups into
the urban fabric, harmoniously structure land uses, promote prudent
management of the urban ecosystem, utilize new technologies, conserve
and highlight the urban cultural heritage.
During the teleconference, Mr. Tagaras, addressing the Mayors of Piraeus
and Peristeri, stated characteristically that the Integrated Urban
Intervention Plans are prerequisite tools for claiming and obtaining
significant funding from the NSRF. Through these, the Local Government
has a powerful tool to highlight the peculiarities of each region and to
significantly improve the living, economic and cultural level of the
citizens. "This design has as its main objectives the creation of
conditions of equality, justice and sustainable development".
To date, the following Integrated Urban Intervention Plans have been approved:
A) The SOAP of the center of Athens (No. 1397 / 13.1.2015 JMC, Government Gazette 64 / B '/ 2015) and
B) The SOAP of the Municipality of Heraklion, Crete (no. ΥΠΕΝ / ΔΝΕΠ / 123044/5479 / 24.12.2019, ΦΕΚ 494 / Β ’/ 2020).
