Greek citizens have embraced digital services in the public sector last year.

According to data from the Ministry of Digital Governance, more than 560 million times the public systems provided digital services to the citizens in 2021.

The number for 2021 is six times higher than the corresponding number for 2020, when digital transactions amounted to 94 million, recording a large increase compared to 2019 and 2018, when the number reached 34 and 8, 8 million respectively.

More than 566 million digital transactions translate into avoiding a corresponding number of citizens' visits to public services. This eliminates unnecessary bureaucracy, saving time, costs and energy for the citizens, but also resources for the Administration.

It is been reminded that the range of digital transactions comprises:

  • digital services, ie the identification of citizens in an information system using Taxisnet codes, and
  • the interoperability, ie the exchange of information between services and registers of the State without any action on the part of the citizen other than the granting of his consent.

In further detail:

Regarding the use of digital services, an extremely large increase was observed through gov.gr. The number of authentications using Taxisnet codes for 2021 amounted to 265,111,222. At the same time, the citizens were served another 4,520,649 times using web banking codes. Adding the two numbers, the total digital services totaled 269,631,871. The corresponding number in 2020 amounted to 57 million.

The number of interoperability calls for automated data exchange between the public information systems amounted to 297,331,109. The corresponding number in 2020 amounted to 37 million.
