The projects will be completed within three years. Part of the left bank of the Danube in Serbia has a sewer system, but even so, all sewage ends up on the Danube, polluting the river.
"We are now working to completely resolve the problem, with a sewage treatment plant and pumping stations, which will include the new sewerage network, but also the existing one, so that the untreated sewage will no longer end up on the Danube. This is very important for the ecology, but "People in this part of the city know better what open canals and open sewers look like," said Belgrade Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic, who watched the work begin.
According to the Mayor, the project is worth 55 million euros, of which 20 million are provided by the Municipality, while the remaining amount of 35 million comes from a loan from the European Investment Bank.
