The decision for the Anthemountas landfill

The decision to upgrade the drainage treatment plant and complete the construction of the Landfill was signed by the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitzikostas.

The project is being implemented with European resources of the Region of Central Macedonia and aims to increase the capacity of the landfill, but also the environmental protection of the area, with the operation of a modern waste management unit, which will have even better operation and even longer "life".

The Regional Association of Solid Waste Management Bodies of Central Macedonia is the implementing body of the project.

The project refers to the construction of the second phase and the upgrade of the drainage treatment plant of the Anthemountas landfill.

Specifically, the construction of cell B section, with an area of ​​65 acres and a capacity of 769,980 sq.m., will be delivered to receive municipal solid waste for the next 35 years. With the upgrade of the leak treatment plant, the unit will be able to dispose of the treated leaks at the recipient designated by the environmental permit.

Within the project’s framework there will be delivered building infrastructures and auxiliary spaces, lighting network, water supply network, fire protection of the facilities, the creation of a truck washing station, but also planting and irrigation projects. Environmental monitoring and control projects are also planned, as well as management projects for the biogas produced by the new cell, as well as road construction works.

At the same time, it was planned to arrange part of the stream that passes through the Anthemountas landfill. A trial period of three months is planned before the normal operation of the project begins. With its upgrade, the drainage treatment plant will also acquire a tertiary treatment unit.
