The project is being implemented with European resources of
the Region of Central Macedonia and aims to increase the capacity of the
landfill, but also the environmental protection of the area, with the operation
of a modern waste management unit, which will have even better operation and
even longer "life".
The Regional Association of Solid Waste Management Bodies of
Central Macedonia is the implementing body of the project.
The project refers to the construction of the second phase
and the upgrade of the drainage treatment plant of the Anthemountas landfill.
Specifically, the construction of cell B section, with an area of
65 acres and a capacity of 769,980 sq.m., will be delivered to receive
municipal solid waste for the next 35 years. With the upgrade of the leak
treatment plant, the unit will be able to dispose of the treated leaks at the
recipient designated by the environmental permit.
Within the project’s framework there will be delivered
building infrastructures and auxiliary spaces, lighting network, water supply
network, fire protection of the facilities, the creation of a truck washing
station, but also planting and irrigation projects. Environmental monitoring
and control projects are also planned, as well as management projects for the
biogas produced by the new cell, as well as road construction works.
At the same time, it was planned to arrange part of the
stream that passes through the Anthemountas landfill. A trial period of three
months is planned before the normal operation of the project begins. With its
upgrade, the drainage treatment plant will also acquire a tertiary treatment
unit.
