The first 46 of 140 in total electric buses that have entered the capital's service are already on the streets of Athens, a number that is expected to double in the near future.

On the first route of the new electric buses launched by OSY SA in Athens, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras boarded, accompanied by the General Secretary of Transport Yannis Xifaras and the Managing Director of OSY SA. Stefano Agiasoglou.

Mr. Staikouras, after inspecting the new vehicles at the company's depot in Agios Ioannis Rentis, boarded the first electric bus that operated route 909 (Agios Vasilios – Agia Sophia – Nicaea State, wider area of Piraeus).

On the occasion of the launch of the new electric buses, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras said: "Today is an important day for urban transport in Athens. The electric buses are circulating, as the OSY administration and the political leadership of the Ministry had promised, on the streets of Athens.

All 140 electric buses have been integrated into the transport project of the Capital. Of these, 46 buses today - for the first time - serve citizens. And in the coming weeks, the number is expected to double. These are modern buses, with a lower footprint in terms of energy impact and environmental consequences. Also, vehicles that serve citizens with mobility problems.

Urban transport is being modernized. They are moving to another era. But all of us must do even more to improve the everyday life of the citizen, always respecting the passenger".
