A large increase of 76.3% was recorded in the total passenger traffic at the airports of Greece in the first month of the year, compared to 2022 and an increase of 3.1%, compared to 2019.

According to data from the CAA, passenger traffic in January 2023 exceeded the corresponding month of 2022 and 2019. During the considered period in Greece, the total number of passengers in Greek airports (arrivals and departures of foreign and domestic passengers) reached 2,202 .735, compared to 1,249,387 in January 2022 and 2,135,674 in 2019.

From the above statistics, there is an increase in passenger traffic of 76.3% compared to 2022 and 3.1% compared to 2019, according to the CAA.

In terms of flights (domestic and international aircraft arrivals and departures), in January 2023 there were 22,176 flights, compared to 18,218 in 2022 and 22,219 in 2019, with the air traffic index showing an increase of 21.7% compared to 2022 and a marginal decrease of 0.2 % compared to 2019.

The fact that there is a marginal decrease in flights (January 2023 compared to January 2019), but an increase in passenger traffic, is due to the capacity and occupancy of the aircraft.
