The implementation of the project is deemed essential for improving traffic conditions in the Skaramagas area, where delays regularly exceed acceptable levels during peak hours. Additionally, the project will provide an alternative route for commuters traveling from the Attiki Odos to Piraeus and the southwestern suburbs of the Athens metropolitan area, helping to alleviate congestion on Kifisou Avenue. The project is scheduled for tendering within the first quarter of 2025, with construction expected to take three years from the signing of the contract.
The project involves a total length of 7.4 km and focuses on connecting the Western Peripheral Road of Aigaleo, which serves as an extension of Attiki Odos, to the Athens–Corinth National Road.
Specifically, the project includes the following:
- Upgrading the Schistos Interchange by adding a second lane in the direction from Schistos to Corinth.
- The traffic light-controlled junction at Schistos Avenue – Palaska will be eliminated, and a new Interchange at Shipyards will be created.
- Completing the Western Peripheral Road of Aigaleo and connecting it to Athens and Schistos Avenue via an interchange.
- Adding a third lane to the exit ramp of the National Road towards Corinth.
