The €85 million investment is planned on an area of approximately 326.8 hectares which is part of a total private area of 873.6 hectares in the area, and foresees the development of a hotel, luxury residences, supporting activities and a tourist marina.
This is the second tourism project for the family, after the investment in the restoration and reopening of the historic hotel Xenia in Chios.
The Tsakou family also owns the neighboring and uninhabited but visitable island of Atokos, located between Ithaca and Aitoloakarnania. It is a rocky island with an area of 4.5 square kilometers that is part of the Echinade Islands complex and administratively belongs to Ithaca.
As stated in the accompanying text of the request, the goal of the investors is "the combination of high-standard tourist development that will protect the ecosystem of the wider area and the promotion of the historical and cultural identity of Ithaca".
The investment entity requests the inclusion of the project in the provisions of Law 4864/2021 as a Strategic Investment in order to ensure rapid licensing, siting incentives, as well as the possibility of being granted the right to use the seafront and beach.
