DEI Renewables is experiencing substantial growth in Romania, with its renewable energy production capacity steadily increasing. The company has already doubled its renewable energy portfolio in the country, solidifying its position as a leading player in the sector.
Currently, DEI Group operates 23 wind, solar, and hydropower projects in Romania, along with battery storage systems, boasting a total installed capacity of 1.3 GW. This makes DEI Renewables the largest producer of green energy in Romania.
To enhance its operational efficiency, DEI Renewables has launched a cutting-edge control center that allows for real-time monitoring and management of its renewable energy units. This new facility can efficiently handle a large volume of installations, effectively managing the inherent variability of renewable energy generation. The center ensures that DEI’s energy production units can respond quickly to commands from local or national energy dispatchers. The control center’s capabilities were tested and approved by Romania’s national electricity system operator.
Adrian Dugulan, General Director of DEI Renewables in Romania, commented: "As the installed capacity of our wind and solar parks in Romania continues to grow, the opening of this advanced control center ensures we can manage energy production effectively across vast distances. This development plays a crucial role in strengthening Romania’s energy sector and boosting its economic competitiveness."
Angelos Kasimis, General Director of Renewable Energy Projects at DEI Renewables, added: "Today marks a significant milestone for DEI Group. The new, high-tech control center we’ve launched in Romania is key to managing the largest renewable energy portfolio in Southeast Europe. It demonstrates our commitment to modernizing infrastructure and advancing our transformation efforts in digitalization, decarbonization, and decentralized energy production."
Expanding in Southeast Europe
DEI Group is accelerating its renewable energy initiatives, consistently adding new wind and solar projects to its portfolio, which now totals 5.5 GW of installed capacity. Of this, 1.3 GW is located in Romania.
As part of its three-year strategic plan, DEI aims to develop an additional 6.3 GW of renewable energy projects in Greece and Southeast Europe by 2027, bringing the total installed capacity to 11.8 GW. Over 60% of the planned projects are already under construction or ready to begin.
The strategic plan also includes expansion into new markets such as Italy, Bulgaria, and Croatia—countries with established interconnections and significant renewable energy potential. Italy and Croatia, in particular, are key due to their strong growth in the renewable sector and access to interconnection infrastructure. Two newly added photovoltaic parks in Italy are part of this broader expansion effort.
At the heart of DEI’s renewable energy expansion is its fully owned subsidiary, DEI Renewables, which is dedicated to tapping into nature’s power through sustainable energy production and storage. Beyond large-scale solar and wind projects, the company is pioneering innovative projects across Southeast Europe that utilize the full range of renewable energy sources, including wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal, and biomass.
