High demand was observed during DESFA's auction process for the reservation of LNG unloading slots and regasification capacity at the Revithousa LNG Terminal.

The increased demand for LNG slots at Revithousa, as detailed in a recent announcement, highlights that nearly all time slots for the 2025-2030 period have already been secured, with strong interest extending into 2032. This development underscores Revithousa’s crucial role in safeguarding Greece’s and the broader region’s energy security and reflects growing confidence in DESFA’s infrastructure.

The surge in demand for LNG unloading slots, especially amidst a period of significant geopolitical shifts and heightened instability, illustrates the key role that Revithousa plays in ensuring energy security for both Greece and Southeastern Europe in the years ahead. This trend is fully aligned with the strategic objectives of the Vertical Corridor.

Greece's LNG exports are expected to see a significant increase in the coming years, fueled by investments aimed at modernizing the National Natural Gas Transmission System. Projects such as the Karperi-Komotini pipeline and the compression stations in Ambelia, Komotini, and Nea Messimvria are set to further boost the country's export capacity to international markets.

For 2025, all 41 available time slots have been fully reserved, corresponding to a total unloading capacity of 35 TWh. Similarly, in the 2026 auction, 21 out of 22 offered slots were taken, for an unloading capacity of 35 TWh from a total of 35.5 TWh on offer.

In 2027, all 44 offered slots were secured, corresponding to an unloading quantity of 36.5 TWh. For 2028, all 44 slots were also reserved, serving a total of 35 TWh. In 2029, all 43 offered slots were taken, for a total unloading quantity of 35.5 TWh. For 2030, 40 slots were reserved, corresponding to 33.5 TWh.

For 2031, 20 of the available slots were secured, amounting to a total of 19 TWh. Finally, despite the long-term horizon, interest has already emerged for 2032, with 2 slots reserved for a total of 2 TWh.

It’s also important to note that the annual scheduling of LNG unloading and capacity reservation, implemented by DESFA since 2020, is based on market-driven mechanisms (auctions). This approach ensures the efficient use of the Revithousa LNG terminal, while adapting to the evolving conditions of both the Greek and international LNG markets.
