The Development and Innovation Committee of the Region of Central Macedonia has approved the Environmental Impact study and the licensing for the construction of the new Loudia bridge, while the project's tender is expected to be announced soon.

According to the vice-region of Development and Environment, the old bridge of Loudia is metal and was built in 1950 on the road axis of the old Thessaloniki-Veria national road axis to connect the prefectures of Thessaloniki and Imathia. The bridge is currently heavily damaged and has stability issues.

The new bridge -that the governor of Central Macedonia, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, has personally committed to refurbish- will adequately serve the ever-increasing number of vehicles passing through the point, as many drivers use this road route as an alternative route between Thessaloniki and Veria. At the same time, it is expected to fully cover the transportation needs of the residents of the Municipalities of Chalkidona and Alexandria, as well as the farmers of the surrounding settlements.

The Deputy Regional Governor for Development and Environment, Kostas Youtikas, unveiled intention to tender the project in 2024, underlining: "It is an absolutely necessary project, which is now entering the implementation phase, satisfying in principle the demands of the residents of the area. "Immediately after the completion of the studies, the Development and Innovation Committee moved quickly and proceeded to the most critical step, it gave the "green light" for permitting the construction of the new bridge."
