The name THE ILISIAN, inspired by the historic river Ilisos as well as the neighborhood of Ilisia, expresses the eternally inseparable relationship of the new destination with Athens, Ilisia, and the residents of the area
The new complex with a total area of 65,000 sqm includes the 5* hotel Conrad Athens, which for the first time has a presence in Greece with 278 rooms and suites with a unique view of Athens, as well as a mega suite of 400 sqm. It also includes 18 private Conrad Residences as well as 37 Waldorf Astoria Residences on the highest floors of the building.
At THE ILISIAN there will also be a modern members' club, multiple restaurants, selected retail brands, conference facilities, as well as sports and wellness areas, in collaboration with leading Greek and international brands.
The design of THE ILISIAN was based on the principles of sustainable development by applying the international best practices of energy efficiency, with the aim of achieving LEED Gold certification.
The visual and architectural identity of THE ILISIAN preserves and highlights all the emblematic elements of the building, such as the facades designed by Yiannis Moralis.
The architectural study and overall design coordination of the project was undertaken by the office AETER Architects, in the static studies the companies: STATIKI - Consultants of Static Studies, F. Tsoulos & Associates, Hellenic Meletitiki and Retech cooperated in the static studies and in the E/M studies, Schemma Mechanics. International and Greek offices collaborated on the interior design: AvroKO, Tristan Auer, Yabu Pushelberg, First Within, SBR studio, Mare Studio, ID-Lab and Vana Krimniotis. The lighting design has been undertaken by Eleftheria Deco & Associates and Delta-Theta, the landscape architecture by the Simon Rackham Landscape Architects office, the focus study by the Xenex company, the audio-visual study by the T&A company, the acoustics by G. Schubert and DCarbon study for LEED Gold certification.
The Hilton Athens hotel, which was one of the largest and most luxurious hotels in Athens, was built between 1958-1963, according to the designs of the architects Emmanuel Vourekas, Prokopi Vassiliadis, Spyros Staikou and Antonis Georgiadis. With its construction, it marked the entry of the country into the global luxury tourism market.
In the period 2001-2003, in view of the Olympic Games, a new six-story wing was added to the hotel towards Ventiri Street, the work of the architectural offices Al. Tombazi and H. Bougadeli. In 2004 it was the seat of the International Olympic Committee, while in 2011 it was used as the seat of the Organizing Committee of the Special Olympics World Games, held in Athens.
At the beginning of 2019, the emblematic hotel became the property of TEMES. The owner of Costa Navarino acquired 51% of the company Ioniki Hotel Enterprises S.A. acquiring the share of Dogus while 49% was acquired by a company connected to the Olayan Group, shareholder of TEMES.
The total investment made by TEMES will exceed €340 million together with the initial investment for the acquisition of the building. According to a study by the University of Piraeus, the total impact of THE ILISIAN on the economy, up to its first 5 years of operation, which is expected to begin in 2025, will exceed €1.25 billion.
