Geothermal tender in four regions of Northern Greece has been extended

The tender for the lease of the right to research geothermal potential in four regions of Northern Greece has been extended until November 30, 2023, by decision of the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Alexandra Sdoukou.

In particular, the deadline for submitting offers is postponed from 4.10.2023 to 30.11.2023 for the following areas:


  • Central - Southern Section of the Strymonas River Basin (Serre & Kavala Divisions Area)
  • Akropotamos (Around the Units of Kavala & Serres)
  • Western Section of Nestos River Delta Basin (Kavala Unit Area), and
  • Evros River Delta Basin (Evros Unit Area)

The purpose of the research is to identify suitable geothermal potential for the production of base electricity and to meet the requirement of the National Energy and Climate Plan 2030 for the participation of geothermal with at least 100MWe in the energy mix.
