XPRIZE Wildfire is organized by XPRIZE, an organization with a global footprint through its large-scale competitions that encourage technological development to address grand challenges.
The competition's mission is to encourage research and innovation in a wide range of technologies that combine artificial intelligence, robotics, drones and sensors to detect and deal with fires instantly, changing the way firefighting is being done to date.
The 4-year competition is an initiative of the XPRIZE Foundation. To date, over 200 teams have expressed interest, including 4 from Greece. The contest is open to everyone at the following link: xprize.org/wildfire.
The competition is divided into 2 sectors, with a total prize pool worth $11 million for participating teams.
In the field "Space-Based Wildfire Detection & Intelligence" registration is open until 31 October 2023.
The second area, "Autonomous Wildfire Response", is accepting registrations until January 31, 2024.
In addition, teams that register in the second field can compete for the $1 million Lockheed Martin Accurate Detection Intelligence Bonus Prize, which will be awarded for innovations in the accurate detection of fires.
Costa Navarino participates in this effort to find solutions to the fires, in the context of commitments and initiatives for sustainable tourism development, with the aim of protecting the natural environment for future generations.
