Greece will manage additional funds of approximately €7.5 billion over the next five to six years for the energy upgrade of households and businesses. These funds will be channeled through financial tools such as the NSRF (National Strategic Reference Framework), the Decarbonization Fund for Islands, the Modernization Fund, and the new Social Climate Fund.

This means that the green transition goal, particularly through energy upgrades, will continue to receive funding even after the conclusion of the Recovery Fund. A total of €6 billion—20% of the overall allocation—was directed to the Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN), with €3 billion specifically dedicated to the energy upgrading of residential and commercial buildings.

This was announced today in Thessaloniki by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Alexandra Sdoukou, as she presented the seven energy upgrade programs launched in January, with a total budget of approximately €1 billion.

The programs include:

  • The "Execonomo 2025" program, with a €434 million budget, which received 40,000 applications (around 18% from Central Macedonia).
  • The "Change Heating System and Water Heater" program, with a €223.4 million budget (16,000 applications from Central Macedonia, out of 75,000 nationwide).
  • The "Energy Efficiency Improvement Program for Mountain Tourism Accommodations," with a €10 million budget, receiving 150 applications from Central Macedonia.
  • The "Energy Storage Systems for Businesses" program, with a €153.7 million budget.
  • The "Promotion of Energy Efficiency in Municipal Water and Sewage Enterprises" program, with a €40 million budget.
  • The "Energy Upgrade Program for Municipal Nurseries 'Phoibos,'" with a €12.4 million budget.
  • The "Energy Upgrade Program for Kindergartens and Primary Schools 'Athena,'" with a €37.2 million budget.

These efforts reflect the continued commitment to supporting sustainable development and energy efficiency across various sectors.
