The number of persons employed amounted to 4,173,424, recording a decrease by 0.2% compared
to the previous quarter and an increase by 1.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
The number of unemployed persons amounted to 574,130, recording an increase by 17.5% compared to the previous quarter and an increase by 4.3% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
The unemployment rate for the first quarter of 2024 was 12.1%.
The unemployment rate was 10.5% in the previous quarter (2023 Q4) and 11.8% in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
The number of persons outside the labour force, i.e., the persons who are neither working nor looking for a job, amounted to 4,278,162.
In particular, persons outside the labour force under the
age of 75, amounted to 3,049,185. Their share decreased by 2.5% compared with the previous
quarter and by 3.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year
