Hotel chains are expanding in Turkey

Turkey's hotel industry is expanding with the entrance of new players, according to a recent report by the Hoteliers Association of Turkey (TÜROB).

The report reveals that the number of hotel chains and groups in the country has increased from 57% in 2019 to 67% in 2023, with 46 local and 21 international brands. There are currently 722 hospitality facilities operated by these chains and groups, with a total of 157,495 rooms. Of these establishments, 321 were franchised, and 257 were owner-operated.

Istanbul has the highest number of hotels with 221, followed by Antalya with 155 and Muğla province with 73. These figures are according to Chain and Group Hotels Research 2023 by TÜROB.

In Turkey, Wyndham Hotels has the highest number of hotels with 15,368 rooms, followed by Hilton Worldwide with 77 hotels and 13,873 rooms. The Accor Group has 62 hotels with 13,233 rooms, while Marriott has 44 hotels with 7,674 rooms. The Radisson Group has 33 properties with 4,876 rooms as of last year.

In 2023, Istanbul saw over 17 million foreign tourists, which accounted for 35% of all foreign tourist arrivals in Turkey. On the other hand, Antalya welcomed nearly 15 million international holidaymakers. The number of foreign tourists visiting the country increased by 10.4% from 2022 to 49.2 million. Total visitors, including Turkish citizens residing abroad, reached 56.7 million last year, an increase of 10.3% compared to 2022.

As tourist inflows to the country increased, tourism revenue, which is one of the main sources of hard currency, also increased last year. According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), tourism revenue is expected to reach $54.3 billion in 2023, up 16.9% from the previous year. For 2024, it is predicted that more than 60 million tourists will visit the country, while revenues from tourism are expected to reach $60 billion.
