The proposal was approved by the former Minister of Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas and the former Deputy Minister of Finance Theodoros Skylakakis.

The budget of the operation amounts to €5,700,000 excluding VAT and will be financed from the resources of the Recovery and Resilience Fund with the amount of €3,500,000 and from the own resources of DEYA Rethymno.

The project, which will be tendered immediately and work is expected to start in autumn 2023, includes the upgrade and modernization of external and internal water supply networks, totaling 89 km, a new water supply reservoir and 2,170 private water supplies. The interventions will be implemented in the settlements: Adele, Ag. Nikolaos, Loutra, Mesi, Prinos, Adelianos Kampos, Sfakaki, Stavromenos, Ag. Dimitrios, Pigi and Pigianos Kampos.

Also, DEVAR has planned and studied important interventions to solve water supply problems in the southern settlements of the Municipal Unit of Arkadi.

Among other things, according to relevant information, a new reservoir and water transport networks are to be built outside the settlement of Amnatos, which will enhance the water supply of the settlements of Amnatos and Kapsaliana.

Also, a water transfer pipeline will be built immediately from the Eleftherna well to Skouloufia and Roupes to strengthen their water supply and, finally, within the summer, the new water wells will be operational in the Kyrianna and Viran Episkopi settlements, which will solve chronic water supply problems.
