The surrounding area of Nea Elvetia terminal station is being redeveloped following a contract been recently signed by the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, the Vice-Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Networks Paris Billias and the Managing Director of Transport Authority of Thessaloniki S.A. Yiannis Toskas.

The contract refers to the assignment, through a competitive process, of the preparation of essential studies for the perimeter zone of the station in the area of ​​Nea Elvetia.

The ultimate goal is to redevelop the area around the multimodal transit terminal in Nea Elvetia to ensure access and all functions related to the terminal and to create extensive green areas.

According to the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, the city will have a "transportation advantage" and an "extremely sophisticated entry point" along with lots of greenery and all the necessary access to the metro terminal. Mr. Zervas referred to the close cooperation of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Region of Central Macedonia and OSETH, but also to the contribution of the ministries that finance the planning.

The 1.4 million euros contract, was inked after all the required approvals of the competent bodies were previously secured, as well as the no. 708/2022 positive Act of the Seventh Level of the Court of Auditors.
