The architect Maria Kokkinou, one of the most important figures of modern Greek architecture, passed away after being defeated by cancer.

Amongst the projects that she has designed are, the Benaki Museum on Piraeus Street, the Cosmote office building in Paiana, the Museum of Marine Antiquities in Piraeus, the renovation of the Agios Kosmas marina, Nea Smyrni Square, Solomos Square in Psychiko , but also many residences, both in Greece and abroad.

Partner in life with the also important architect, and professor at the School of Architecture in Athens, Andreas Kourkoulas, with whom they maintained one of the best-known architectural offices in Athens.

Maria Kokkinou studied Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens from where she graduated in 1979. She then did postgraduate studies in London, a city where she lived for several years and had her two children, but also in the USA. During her successful career, she received honors, gave lectures in Greece and abroad while participating with her works in international publications and exhibitions.
