In the coming days reconstruction works of Monis Gonia Street in Nea Chora are scheduled to begin, under the care of the Municipality of Chania, as announced during the signing of the project contract with the contractor company.

The signing of the contract took place in the Hall of the Municipal Council of Chania, by the Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis and the subcontractor, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Technical Services, Michalis Kalogridakis, and officials and partners of the Municipality.

This is an important project that will upgrade the area, with the widening of sidewalks, the replacement and undergrounding of the networks and the installation of new lighting fixtures, seating areas and urban equipment. At the same time, a new bicycle path will be created, while there is care for new plantings along the entire length of the street in pocket parks, while parking spaces will also be demarcated.

The Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis, expressed his great satisfaction at the signing of the said contract, pointing out that it promotes an important regeneration, which the city has been waiting for years. "It comes as a continuation of the very large projects, which we have already started in the Municipality of Chania and which in the next period will significantly change and upgrade the function and image of our city", added Mr. Simandirakis, observing that this is a road extremely degraded, difficult to access, without lighting, sidewalks, where huge problems were created, both for residents and passers-by. In fact, as the Mayor of Chania pointed out, the project is carried out without burdening the finances of the Municipality of Chania and the citizens, as its entire financing comes from the Green Fund.
