During the third quarter of 2024, guests spent 366.2 million nights in short-term rental accommodation in the EU, booked via Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group or Tripadvisor. This corresponds to an increase of 18% compared with the same period in 2023.
All 3 months in the third quarter of 2024 recorded increases in nights spent in accommodation booked via online platforms. In July 2024, 135 million nights were registered, an increase of 16.4% compared with July 2023. August reported 152.2 million nights booked via platforms (+21.6% compared with August 2023) and September 79 million (+14% compared with September 2023).
This marks the fourth consecutive year of double-digit percentage growth compared to the previous year (2021: +33.3%, 2022: +34.8%, 2023: +13.8%).
All three months of the third quarter of 2024 saw an increase in overnight stays in accommodations booked through online platforms. In July 2024, there were 135 million overnight stays, marking a 16.4% increase compared to July 2023. In August 2024, this number rose to 152.2 million (+21.6%), the highest number of overnight stays recorded in a single month since the start of the project. In September 2024, overnight stays reached 79 million (+14.0%).
For the third quarter of 2024, the highest growth rates in the EU were observed in Malta (+40.9%), followed by Germany (+26.0%) and Sweden (+24.6%). France, Spain, and Italy, the most popular destinations for the third quarter of 2024, recorded growth rates of 23.8%, 20.2%, and 15.5%, respectively.

Among the eight most popular destinations in the EU for the third quarter of 2024, Greece ranked fourth, recording a +14.3% increase. Croatia ranked fifth with a 6.2% increase, Germany sixth with a 26% increase, Portugal seventh with a 15.7% increase, and Poland eighth with a 17.5% increase.
Overall, the number of overnight stays in all eight countries increased compared to 2023, far surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
