The new Courthouse in Piraeus, a project implemented by Dimand, will be the first "green" public building in the country with zero emissions and the first to receive a LEED Gold certification. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the site to oversee its progress.

The development will consist of an underground level, ground floor, and five additional floors, with an internal uncovered area. It will feature more than 360 parking spaces, be accessible by public transportation, and adjacent land will host 1,500 square meters of sports facilities. Furthermore, a new internal road with controlled access will be built for transport vehicles and vehicles of the Hellenic Police.

The new courthouse has been designed by the architectural office ASPA (Tsangkaratos Spyros) and will cover an area of 41,000 square meters. Of the 17 acres of land, five have been allocated to the Municipality of Piraeus for the construction of a square. The project is set to be completed by the summer of 2026 and is part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”.

The new courthouse will house the Court of First Instance, the Court of Appeals, the Administrative Court of First Instance, the Administrative Court of Appeals, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of First Instance, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Appeals, and the Peace Court. It will accommodate 310 judicial staff and 565 administrative employees, with a total capacity for 1,200 jobs.

The next stop of the visit was the construction site of the new Underwater Archaeological Museum at the Port of Piraeus. The Prime Minister, accompanied by the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, and the Mayor of Piraeus, Giannis Moralis, was briefed on the progress of the works and the project’s implementation timeline. He also attended a presentation on the restoration plans for the surrounding area.

The new museum, designed by Tsolakis architects (George Tsolakis), occupies the old warehouse building, the iconic “SILO,” and its extension. Through the addition of a new building, the total area will be 26,380 m².

The museum will house thousands of exhibits from underwater archaeology, creating a major cultural attraction within the Port of Piraeus area.

The museum will cover the relationship of Greeks with the sea, from ancient times to the early 20th century, spanning over 3,000 years, making it unique in the world. It will also address the contemporary issue of climate change and its impact on the sea. The complex will include water features and an amphitheater, with the design preserving landmarks of Piraeus, such as the clock atop the under-renovation SILO, which was built in 1936.
